We stopped in once or twice for a quick espresso and once for a snack.

Bifana

We ordered one of our favorite snack sandwiches in Portugal — a bifana.

What is a bifana?

A bifana sandwich consists of thin slices of marinated pork on a roll, often a particular portuguese roll called a papa seco.

Âncora Doce Review

The bifana at Âncora came with mayonnaise and mustard already on the sandwich. And in larger quantities than these photos give evidence to. 😅

Pro Tip / PSA: If you’re ordering a bifana snack at this cafe, and you don’t like mayonnaise or mustard let the staff know in advance.

The staff is very kind here and we would have asked in advance, but we were not expecting it as this is the first bifana in Portugal that we ordered which came with condiments already on the sandwich.
