Cá Te Espero Tavira, Portugal — Review, Menu, Photos

An Unexpected Visit to Cá te Espero

It was a rainy, rainy day…

The kind of rain that comes on suddenly and unrelentingly.

We were in Tavira, across the river (the side where Mr Pizza and The Black Anchor Pub are located) and had no choice but to duck into a cafe to wait out the storm.

The closest cafe was a very local Portuguese style cafe called Cá Te Espero which is a cute name.

Learn Portuguese: Cá te espero means “I’ll wait for you here”

Cá Te Espero Menu

Of course you can get any type of coffee in a cafe like this — cafe/bica/espresso, pingado, meio de leite, galão, abatinado etc etc.

But Cá Te Espero also has some nice lunch menu options.

The sugestão do dia (suggestion of the day) included

  • lulas fritas (fried squid) for €9.50
  • moelas estufadas (gizzards) for €9.50

You can also order grilled salmon, breaded squid, and grilled tuna for €12.

For land meat you can choose breaded chicken, grilled pork belly, pork bitoque for €9.50 or grilled picanha steak for €12.

Quiche at Cá Te Espero — €4

I wasn’t in need of a full meal, but the rain looked like it was going to carry on for a while so I opted to order a quiche off the main menu.

I believe it was around €4 and it was a really huge slice of quiche! The flavor was great and the only thing I wish is that it was a tad warmer.

Quiche in a cafe like this is usually served cold / room temperature so you generally need to request it quente (hot) if you want it warmed up, of course with the knowledge that they will be microwaving it in order to do so.

Cá Te Espero Tavira Review

Cá te espero is a very small cafe/restaurant in Tavira, Portugal with just a few tables inside and a few outside.

This is a very local establishment where you can enjoy affordable Portuguese dishes which is what you’re looking for right?

If we get the chance to come back and try their cooked meals, I will be sure to update this post.
