Mercadona is the largest supermarket in Spain and a lot of our friends really love shopping there.
Some of those friends are Spanish, lol.
But even our non-Spanish friends all seem to love Mercadona and are excited that the grocer is expanding with more locations in Portugal.
Anyways, one day one of our Spanish friends surprised us after the meeting with two of her favorite things from Mercadona.
Fuet Espetec
One of those was a long skinny stick of meat called fuet espetec. I had never heard of it before.
It’s long and skinny like a French baguette.
Imagine how people will carry a baguette under their arm or hanging out of their bag, only instead of bread it’s a stick of meat.
That was me on the day I got this. haha
Everyone was asking me, “What is that?! Oh fuet! I love fuet!”
So, what is fuet espetec anyway?
In the words of the great Sir Wiki Pedia, “Fuet is a thin, dry-cured pork sausage from Catalonia, Spain, that looks and tastes similar to a skinny salami. [1, 2]”
Ingredients: It is made with minced lean pork, bacon, salt, black pepper, and garlic stuffed in a natural casing.
Said casing is covered in a white mold layer which is “completely edible and safe.”
Some people eat it, other people do not. Choose your fuet-stiny.
What to serve with fuet:
Serve fuet at room temperature as a tapa or snack alongside crusty bread, cheese, olives, or nuts
Hacendado Pan con Tomate y Orégano
The other snack was a bag of little tomato toasts!
Ingredients
Wheat flour (gluten), refined sunflower oil (24%), dehydrated tomato powder (0.4%), sugar and flour treatment agent: ascorbic acid.

Our Review — Worth Buying?
We really loved these! Crunchy, oily in a good way, and the potential to be dangerously addictive.
These little toasts tasted instantly very familiar, like something out of our school-aged days.
Do you remember combos?
Specifically the pizza combos?
We both agreed that the taste of these reminded us sooo much of Pizza Combos, but with an undoubtedly better ingredient list.
I didn’t even know if you could still buy those, but it turns out you can!
So this was a very fun and unexpected gift and first taste of Spanish groceries for us and it was made even more special by where it came from — and I don’t mean Mercadona.
