Pizzeria Santa Chiara carries the soda brand Fritz, as you can see on their chairs, tables, and A-frame sign.

I had never heard of Fritz Kola before but turns out it’s an indie soda brand from Hamburg, Germany with an emphasis on natural ingredients, sustainability, and a significant caffeine boost in their classic Kola.

Now! On to what we ordered and the real-life photos you want to see.

What We Ordered

Diavola Pizza β€” β‚¬14.90

Ingredients: s. marzano tomato, mozzarella, neapolitan salame, homemade spicy oil, basil

Lisbon Pizzeria Santa Chiara Photo Review β€” Diavola Pizza

Yes, we have a hard time passing up a Diavola. For an American this is akin to ordering pepperoni pizza, except better. πŸ˜‰

Lisbon Pizzeria Santa Chiara Photo Review β€” Diavola Side View

I quite liked how the meat was in thinner slices as opposed to the round slices of cured meat you often get on a pizza.

The crust is nice and fluffy around the edges and has a flavorful char on the underside.

Margherita Pizza β€” β‚¬11.90

The other classic we can’t hardly skip getting at a new pizza place (except this one time) is a margherita pizza.

A heart shaped pizza β€”Β how romantic! πŸ₯°

Bonus, bonus points for this one being adorably shaped as a heart. Isn’t it cute?!

Again we’ll take a peak at the bottom crust, but I feel like just a glance at these pizzas will tell you 3 things:

  1. They are authentic
  2. They’re using quality ingredients
  3. They’re delicious

Tiramisu Di Treviso β€” β‚¬6.50

Ingredients: mascarpone cream, a layer of espresso-soaked savoiardi and cocoa powder

Lisbon Pizzeria Santa Chiara Photo Review β€” il Tiramisu Dessert Jar

For dessert we had to try Tiramisu (we’re building a “Tiramisu Around The World” series so… yeah, we can’t miss a tiramisu opportunity can we?)

I have to admit I was really surprised when it came in a glass jar with a label on it.

Lisbon Pizzeria Santa Chiara Photo Review β€” Jarred Tiramisu Dessert

Tiramisu literally means like “pick me up” or “lift me up” in Italian because it’s so delicious it’s bound to cheer you up any day. But seeing the bar code on the back kind of deflated that effect before the first bite.

Lisbon Pizzeria Santa Chiara Photo Review β€” Top Down view of Cocoa Topped Tiramisu Dessert in a Jar

I’m a fan of cute desserts in jars, and totally get that establishments outsource parts of their menu, but I like to at least feel like it was made on site and not like I am paying equal to almost $8 on a pre-made jarred dessert.

Even if it was brought in, I’d rather have a piece of tiramisu on a plate than a jar (unless the jar is truly made on premises and part of the styling), but I understand that a jar can be easier to store, faster to serve and so on.

Lisbon Pizzeria Santa Chiara Photo Review β€” Spoon full of Tiramisu Dessert from Tiramisusi

On the upside, the cream was nice and fluffy and the cocoa powder topping was on point! There is also a lovely community-support element I’ll share in a sec.

Undercooked savoiardi biscuits in jarred Tiramisu Dessert Lisbon Pizzeria Santa Chiara Photo Review

Opinion: I thought the savoiardi (lady fingers) could use at least a bit more soaking in the espresso.

Tiramisu Redemption:

So I learned that Santa Chiara, a little over a year ago, added tiramisu to their menu in a partnership with a local, fellow small business Tiramisusi who has locations in AlgΓ©s and Alvalade.

I love to see small businesses support other small businesses! It’s funny how this context shifted my perspective on this dessert.

I think it would be great if waitstaff shared background details like this when serving the premade tiramisu-in-a-jar.

What do you think? Is nearly $8 too much for this dessert? Does knowing you are supporting two small businesses when ordering it affect your answer?

Pizzeria Santa Chiara Review

If you’re looking for a Neapolitan Pizza while in Lisbon, you can confidently visit Santa Chiara.

This is overall a fork-and-knifer pizza, especially at the center as it can be a bit soggy? (not the word I want to use because it slants negative and it’s meant neutrally, purely as an observation…) how about juicy? is that better? idk but at any rate:

The flavors are great, service was friendly, and you can see these are undoubtedly beautiful pizzas!

Lisbon Pizzeria Santa Chiara Photo Review β€” Pizza Photos

If you’re sitting outside (most likely you will be), bring layers according to the weather so you can really enjoy your visit.

Do you need a reservation at Santa Chiara Pizzeria? We visited on a Saturday afternoon around 2pm, toward the end of the lunch period without reservations, and were seated right away and it seemed like they were running a lunch special even though it was the weekend.

We walked by several more times on our visit and it looked like it was always busy!

Does Santa Chiara have vegetarian options? Yes. Check the Special Pizzas menu as the Angelina is particularly called out as a vegetarian Neapolitan pizza in lisbon, made with love.

What I would do differently:

  • I would not sit at the last table as the other side of the plastic enclosure is the garbage/recycling station which can occasionally bring some unpleasant aromas.
  • I would ask if any of the desserts are made on premises (well I’m sure the Angioletti and Nutella Calzone must be since they are made with pizza dough) and I would try one of those.

What I would try next time:

  • Fried Pizza β€” We actually ordered a fried pizza but they told us they weren’t available until the night shift, unfortunately. I don’t know if that is always the case or just circumstantial the day we visited
  • Crocche β€” I love a croquette
  • Mortanara β€” We really enjoy trying street food from different countries
  • Actually the more I look at the menu, the hungrier I get so I think I’ll stop here for my own well being :p
