Potzalia Comida Mexicana

Authentic Mexican food can be hard to come by in Portugal, but who doesn’t love a genuine street-style taco?
We had to track down this discreet Mexican restaurant you would never find without intention.
Don’t give up, it’s worth it!
Location
Potzalia Mexican Restaurant Address: Av. Álvaro Pais 13, Loja 22, 1600-316 Lisboa, Portugal
You will not see this Lisbon Mexican restaurant from the street. It’s located in this commercial building, which, by the way is pretty desolate late at night.

Multicentro Entrecampos commercial building houses Potzalia Mexican restaurant.

What We Ordered
Margarita on the Rocks

Pico de Gallo con Totopos — €5.80
(aka chips and salsa)

Yes, coming from the land of the free chips and salsa sin limito, it’s hard to fork out six bucks for a solitary basket, but here we are.
Potmalitos — €6.30
Homemade tamales with flavors changing by the day. This was an absolute highlight of the visit.

So flavorful, incredible texture, just an all around delight!

Tacos — 5 x €14.00
You can mix and match your tacos, so go crazy and try some unexpected flavors!

Pudim de Goaiaba Picante (aka Spicy Guava Flan) — €4.30
With a Cuban background, I love a good flan and in Portugal anything reminiscent of a flan is usually called “pudim”.
This flan was spicy guava flavored and I couldn’t stop thinking about that once I saw it on the menu!

The flavor was so interesting and complex. The texture was less smooth than a traditional flan, thanks to the very finely ground chilis.

I really enjoyed this as a unique Mexican dessert!
Our Review — Would We Go Back?
We went to Potzalia Mexican Restaurant in Lisbon at a very off hour – right before they closed. The entire building was desolate.
Still, the owner and staff were so kind and we really enjoyed the food. The absolute stars for me were the tamale and that spicy guava flan. I really recommend you try them if you go!
And if you manage to find the place, you’ll also be rewarded with this cute little Mexican sombrero basket which holds all the napkins you’ll need to enjoy your Mexican food! ;]
