Boardwalk Balcony 10727

Our first ever Royal Caribbean cruise was an 8 night Southern Caribbean Cruise on Symphony of the Seas where we sailed in an Ocean View Cabin 3198, another first time for us as we had always sailed in either an inside or balcony in the past.

A year later, much to our surprise, we were back on Symphony of the Seas with a bunch of family and this time we were trying a whole new stateroom category — Boardwalk Balcony (2I).

What is a Boardwalk Balcony?

Most everyone is familiar with a balcony stateroom on a cruise ship. It’s pretty self explanatory, you have a balcony where you can look out onto the open waters of the ocean (or river) as you sail along.

A Boardwalk Balcony takes the concept of a balcony and instead of facing the ocean, it faces the interior of the cruise ship, in this case the Boardwalk Neighborhood.

Come along on our Boardwalk Balcony 10727 Photo tour so you can get an idea of what this cabin is like, how it differs from a traditional ocean view balcony and whether or not it is the right fit for your next cruise!

Royal Caribbean Key Cards

We made our way to deck 10 on Symphony of the Seas and found our stateroom 10727. The key cards were located in the little slot behind the room number.

These cards on Royal Caribbean are called your Sea Pass cards.

They are important to carry with you at all times as they give you access to your cabin, but also are needed to make purchases on the ship, order drinks, spa services, and any special amenities on Perfect Day at CocoCay, for example.

So let’s go inside!

First Glance | Symphony of the Seas Boardwalk Balcony 10727

At first glance, the Boardwalk Balcony is very similar to the Ocean View Cabin we had on Symphony the previous year — A couch, desk area, a Royal King bed (2 twins pushed together).

Of course the difference is that instead of the large round window, we have sliding doors out to a full balcony.

More on that in a bit.

Storage | Symphony of the Seas Boardwalk Balcony 10727

There is ample storage in a Royal Caribbean cabin.

To one side of the couch is a spacious closet with hanging storage, 5 shelves, a safe, and 2 drawers.

To the other side of the couch there is another closet with even more hanging space and this closet has some flexibility so you could, for example, put your large luggage in here!

Bathroom | Symphony of the Seas Boardwalk Balcony 10727

Modern cruise ship bathrooms impress me.

They are compact yet well designed to have plenty of room and feel spacious for their size.

The beautiful rounded glass capsule shower is a crowd pleaser as everyone shudders to think back to the shower curtain days of the past.

Living Space | Symphony of the Seas Boardwalk Balcony 10727

There is a pretty large couch in each cabin, and in many of the cabins this sofa can be transformed to a bed.

You also have a desk area with a chair if you need to do some work (hopefully not!), a place to do your makeup in front of a mirror, or take some time to read the many papers that will welcome you on arrival as shown below.

This space also has a few outlets so it can be a main charging station for your phone, tablet, or whatever other electronics you may travel with.

Now, on to the part you’re undoubtedly most curious about — The view!

  • Can you see the ocean from a Boardwalk Balcony?

The view will vary based on which specific Boardwalk Balcony you have, but it is absolutely possible to see the ocean from a Boardwalk Balcony.

  • Are all Boardwalk Balconies obstructed?

No. Not all Boardwalk Balconies are “obstructed”, but interestingly enough, some of the “obstructed” Boardwalk Balconies actually will offer you the better views of the ocean, if that’s what you’re hoping for.

  • What is the view like from a Boardwalk Balcony?

The view directly across from your Boardwalk Balcony will be the Boardwalk Balconies on the other side of the ship.

In some cases you will be able to see the ocean and the Ports of Call, like in our case in stateroom 10727 on Symphony of the Seas!

Here are some pictures from Boardwalk Balcony 10727 on various days of this Eastern Caribbean Cruise so you can see if you would like to book this room!

View of Perfect Day CocoCay, Bahamas

The second day of our cruise we stopped at one of my favorite Ports of Call — Perfect Day at CocoCay, Bahamas.

Here’s the view:

So yes, you definitely have an obstruction – the Ultimate Abyss purple slides, and the white support pillar, as well as the back of the ship area where the Aqua Theater is located.

Butttttt….

THE OCEAN!!!

THE SKY!!!

THE CLOUDS!!!

^.^

Boardwalk Balcony Breakfast View on a Sea Day

What’s a sea day like in a boardwalk balcony?

We love to have the free continental breakfast delivery to our stateroom on Royal Caribbean, and here you a see our spread as we sat on our balcony to enjoy it.

Notice the view from the balcony when sitting.

So yes, again, obstructions. And also yes, again, ocean and sky!

View of St Thomas

We had such a great day on St. Thomas with a personalized tour from a friend, so we snapped this picture of the view and headed out on our way!

View of St Maarten

It was very fun to wake up at St. Maarten cruise port and have this lush green Mountain View from our Boardwalk Balcony, what do you think?!

View of Boardwalk Neighborhood From Cabin 10727

Up until now I have focused on the view toward the back of the ship and the ocean from our boardwalk balcony, but neglected to show you the opposite direction — the Boardwalk Neighborhood.

The Boardwalk Neighborhood is a bustling and fun area complete with carousel and sometimes live music outside of Playmakers as seen above.

It can be fun to get a glimpse of the action right from your balcony.

View of Port of Miami on Disembarkation Day

The saddest view of all is always on disembarkation day.

At the same time I couldn’t help but think this moody overcast view with the glow of the ship was pretty cool.

Our Boardwalk Balcony Review — Would We Book it Again?

It was our first time trying a Boardwalk Balcony and I think we got a really good one when booking 10727.

I loved being able to see bits of ocean, sky, and various cruise ports from my balcony, even though it was a bit obstructed by the slide and poll.

Having the Royal Caribbean logo in view also provided fun and unique photo opportunities. Oh, and by the way, you can easily zoom past the slides to have photos that are a bit more focused.

  • Are Boardwalk Balcony Cabins Loud and Noisy?

The noise factor may be something to consider depending on your needs and preferences.

Of course when sitting on your balcony you will have some noise from the goings-on of the Boardwalk Neighborhood below.

You’ll also have the noise of the Aqua Theater shows when they are going on.

Regarding the Aqua Theater shows, some folks love being able to watch them from their balconies, and find it a neat bonus to have a different vantage point. With your balcony doors securely closed, you will still hear some of the noise from the show, at least in our case in 10727. I can’t speak for the boardwalk balconies closer to the direction of midship.

That being said, we did not find the noise to be outrageous in any way and the shows typically end at a reasonable hour so not a huge deal, but absolutely worth noting especially if you are very sound sensitive and need completely undisturbed rest at an early hour. If that’s you, you may want to travel with some of these.

A Note to Parents of Small Children:

Oh I almost forgot, the only other ‘noise’ we had concern about was the balcony next to us, where two little kids were being little kids (no problem at all there), but they were climbing so much on the chairs to see over the balcony we were genuinely concerned for their safety.

A Boardwalk Balcony is probably more interesting for little kids since there is so much activity to look at compared to an ocean view which they may find “boring”.

If you’re the parent of small children you may want to consider this when booking your cabin and if you do book any type of balcony, please don’t let your small treasures out on the balcony unattended.

  • Any other cons/downsides of a Boardwalk Balcony?

Boardwalk Balconies offer considerably less privacy than an Ocean View Balcony which faces toward the ocean.

Since Boardwalk Balconies face other Boardwalk Balconies, when you look straight ahead you see other people on their balconies, sometimes you can see inside their rooms, and sure, there is always the risk of seeing more than you want to see.

You should bear that in mind when relaxing on your balcony so as to be respectful to other passengers. Don’t be a weird starer and make people feel uncomfortable on their vacation. lol.

Final Verdict: Boardwalk Balcony on Royal Caribbean — Would We Book it Again?

So what’s the final verdict?

Yes! We would book a Boardwalk Balcony again.

Sometimes they run great deals on Boardwalk Balconies and for just a little more than an inside cabin you can have a boardwalk balcony! We think that is a fantastic option.

Ocean View Balconies are still our favorite, but we would happily sail in a Boardwalk Balcony again.
