Tavira French Bakery Review — La Baguette Artisan Boulanger Français

The French Bakery in Tavira is a very popular spot where you can indulge in a bit of French culture in the heart of Tavira.

Location

Restaurant Address: R. dos Mouros 20, 8800-410 Tavira, Portugal

What We Ordered

Croque Monsieur

An entire gallery dedicated to a Croque Monsieur — a classic hot French ham and cheese sandwich coated in creamy béchamel sauce and melted cheese.

Chocolatine

A chocolatine is a flaky, buttery French pastry filled with dark chocolate.

I was wondering How is a Chocolatine different from Pain au Chocolat?

Apparently they are really the same thing =)

The two names for the same French pastry hint at where the speaker is from with chocolatine being favored in southwestern France whereas Parisians and the rest of France tend to call it pain au chocolat.

Our Review — Would We Go Back?

La Baguette Artisan Boulanger Français is a lovely place to spend some time in Tavira.

The interior is charming with Portuguese tiles (azulejos) and cozy with bookshelves inviting you to linger.

Outside you can find some al fresco dining on the narrow sidewalk beside the road.

We have visited on more than one occasion and as we comb through our backlog of photos we will update this post to show some more of the delicious pastries, sweet and savory, that we have have enjoyed here and recommend.

While this is a cute spot to meet a few friends, it’s also very solo-traveler-friendly café in Tavira and a chill place to spend some time on your own.

Good To Know: Tavira’s French Bakery is closed Wednesdays.

Most Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays they are open 7am-2pm, while weekends they close earlier — good for them!

Plan your visit earlier in the day if you want a specific pastry and like the buzz of a full house, but a visit in the early afternoon may yield a quieter visit (albeit with fewer choices of freshly baked goods) for those who prefer such.
