Versailles Cuban Restaurant — Miami, Florida
Versailles is an iconic Cuban restaurant in Miami where immigrants and Cuban food enthusiasts flock as an obligatory pilgrimage when in the region.

We had never been there, but heard about it for years so we had no choice but to make our pilgrimage (via the free Little Havana trolley) to Versailles to see what all the fuss was about.

We finally made it!

Location
Versailles Miami Address: 3555 SW 8th St, Miami, FL 33135

There was a bit of a wait to be seated, but there was a large courtyard to wait in, complete with a bar to order a drink if you want.

At the other side of the restaurant is Versailles Bakery.

There was also a line up here — gotta get them guava pastries, chico!

You can order your favorite Cuban pastries and swag here.

And of course you can order cuban coffee, too!

About this time our name was called and we ran to the main restaurant so as to not lose our space!

Versailles Drink Menu with Prices

What We Ordered
Inside Versailles is a combination of stepping back in time with opulent chandeliers and French palace style mirrors while simultaneously being in a cafeteria/dining hall, because this place is huge-íssimo!

Tostones — $3.75
Tostones are a must for me.

What are tostones? Tostones are slices of green plantains, sliced, fried, smashed, then fried again then salted.

Cubano — $9.95
A classic Cuban sandwich, cut on the diagonal, as it should be.

What’s in a Cuban Sandwich? Cuban bread, mojo-roasted pork, sliced ham, Swiss cheese, dill pickles, and yellow mustard

Picadillo — $11.75
A favorite Cuban dish of mine is Picadillo.

This ground beef dish is savory with it’s sofrito and olives, but also has a touch of sweetness as it’s traditionally made with raisins.

The picadillo comes with some traditional Cuban side dishes.
Rice & Platanos Maduros (Fried, Ripe Plantains)
These fried plantains are sweet and gooey.
Best when the plantain is so ripe that the skin is black and seems like it should have been thrown away a while back, it always amazes me that this is the same ingredient that makes the tostones shown above — tan versatile, no?!

Frijoles Negros
And no Cuban meal is truly complete without frijoles negros, delicious soupy black beans!

Our Review — Would We Go Back?
This is a tough one for me. Versailles in Miami is an iconic spot for Cubans and enthusiasts and it’s a very fun place to visit culturally.
They serve a lot of Cuban classics and I definitely think it was good value for money.

I know this is a super unpopular opinion, but if I’m totally honest, I wasn’t blown away by the food itself. I couldn’t help but think that with the way people were packed in there (soooo many people) maybe the volume itself is sucking the heart and soul out of some of the dishes.
Or maybe it was just an off day!
I would definitely like to go back to La Ventanita (the little window at the bakery side) and order up Cuban coffee, pastries, and croquettes to see how they stack up.
